Mau, Uttar
Pradesh: Local Indpendent MLA Mukhtar Ansari, wanted
in connection with the recent communal riots here, surrendered
in a Ghazipur court today.
Mau
District Magistrate Mukesh Meshram told PTI that Ansari was
booked in an FIR for murder, inciting riots and violation of
curfew imposed to curb the communal frenzy that broke out
during the Dussehra festivities and claimed nine
lives.
Action
was also being initiated against Ansari's accomplice and raids
were being conducted to arrest them, Meshram said, adding that
the district authorities have already recommended withdrawal
of Ansari's licences.
Raids
had been going on in Mau, Ghazipur and Lucknow to nab the MLA,
after his name figured in the FIR in connection with the
riots, he said.
A
team of the Special Task Force had also been deployed to track
him down, he said, adding that there had been an overall
improvement in the situation in the riot-torn town.
